Welcome to the official website of the Jerry Walsh Memorial Cake Eater Classic. We are seeking your support to
help rid the world of ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. This year's event is June 2, 2012 at Hidden
Valley Golf Club in Whitesboro. The Jerry Walsh Memorial Cake Eater Classic is a 501(c)(3) entity and all donations
are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
This event is dedicated to the memory of Jerry Walsh, Jr. Jerry was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend,
and businessman who lived in Ilion, NY. He was stricken with ALS and after 15 months died on August 13, 2008.
It is our wish that no other family suffer as ours has due to this illness. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is also
known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It is a fatal disease that attacks the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that
control voluntary muscle movement and muscle power. A person with ALS loses his/her ability to walk, speak, swallow,
and eventually breathe. Yet in most patients their mind remains unaffected. It is said that they are trapped in
a body that no longer works. We hope that our family and friends can do something to help both
the patients and families who are currently struggling with this disease. We would also like to help continue research
so a cure might be found. We feel this is our way of keeping Jerry's memory alive and giving some meaning to his
death.
